So why is this spirit not a gin?
The environmentally conscious distillery chose its own path: The Botanical Spirit.
Nc'nean Botanical Spirit is perfect for gin lovers. The base of this innovative organic spirit is the barley distillate of the whisky, the New Make. It gives it a malty, fruity undertone that harmonizes excellently with the ten botanicals. These are a mix of traditional gin flavors and locally gathered plants: juniper, coriander, angelica, licorice, chamomile, grapefruit, bog myrtle, thyme, sorrel, and heather.
Nc'nean Botanical Spirit is a whisky-gin hybrid. To be a gin, the predominant flavor should be juniper. However, in the re-distillation of the raw distillate based on barley, only a little juniper is used, allowing the other botanicals to come forward more prominently in flavor.
Nc'nean Botanical Spirit pairs perfectly with tonic or tastes great as the base of any classic gin cocktail.

Far in the west of Scotland on the Morvern Peninsula lies the small distillery Nc'nean. Nc'nean is an exceptional distillery in many ways. It is one of the first distilleries in Scotland founded by a woman. Annabel Thomas has fulfilled a great dream with this. And what whisky fan doesn't dream of their own distillery?! But the path was not all rosy. She gave up her job in the city, scraped together £7.5 million, and got to work. A few years later, the Nc'nean distillery stood in one of the most beautiful corners of Scotland. The name is derived from 'Neachneohain', the 'Queen of Spirits' in Gaelic folklore. Here, sustainable Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Botanical Spirit are produced from untreated barley malt, generated with self-produced electricity.
