The 'Beast of Dufftown', as Mortlach is also called, owes this name to an unconventional and complicated distillation method, where it is distilled 2.81 times. This usually results in a robust whisky that is rich in fruity aromas, often possessing meaty notes and occasionally even hinting at smoky traces. This sets Mortlach apart from many other distilleries in the idyllic Speyside, which typically produce soft, floral, and easily accessible whiskies.

What this single malt reveals in your glass is primarily due to its overall 17 years of maturation and the final touch in a first-fill and particularly active Oloroso sherry cask. This emphasizes the naturally spicy notes and perfectly showcases the whisky: Imagine a muscular Scotch wearing an elegant tuxedo.

On the nose, this noble drop delivers aromas of sweet figs, dark berries, and apples. They are carried by hearty spice in the form of nuts, tobacco, wood, and smoked meat. This single cask was not bottled by the Mortlach distillery itself, but by the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Due to its impressive quality, its owner Andrew Symington personally selected the cask and had it bottled completely naturally. With undiluted cask strength of 56.9% ABV, without chill filtration and without coloring, the whisky comes practically straight from the cask into your glass.
