Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask (Design 2019-2024)

Aroma: Dried fruits and baked apple, with aromatic soft caramel notes and candied orange. You can notice the higher proportion of sherry casks made of American oak, which show bright oak tones and vanilla sweetness. 

Taste: Creamy entry with honey biscuits and forest fruit jam, here too you find caramel and light raisin notes, as well as a hint of cinnamon.

Finish: Medium-long and intense with raisins and vanilla. In the aftertaste, it becomes drier with orange peels.

THE Macallan, as it is often referred to by connoisseurs, is rightly one of the most praised whiskies worldwide. Fortunately, this did not change when Highland Distillers suddenly gained a majority stake in 1996 through a merger with the Japanese Suntory Group. Until then, Macallan had been in the hands of the Macallan-Glenlivet family since its establishment in 1824. The company now belongs to the Edrington Group, which also houses several other renowned whiskies.

The distillery is located near the famous Telford arch bridge and is one of the most famous Speyside distilleries in Scotland. Macallan 12 years is, alongside the 18-year-old, one of the most well-known bottlings, which, like the other vintages, has won award after award. The special feature that has always set Macallan apart from all other whiskies is its exclusive maturation in casks that previously held Spanish sherry. This not only gives it its golden amber color but also its pronounced, spicy sherry aroma. However, this is not so dominant that it overshadows the nuances of sweet caramel. The good balance has always been the most prominent feature of Macallan.
