Uncut Diamond with a Veil of Smoke

Nosing: Delicate smoke dances through the air, mingling with the scent of freshly picked apples. Golden honey, a hint of malt, and sweetened cereals join in.

Palate: Juicy apples, pears, and nectarines spread across your mouth, enriched by smoky accents and impressions of fresh hay. A slight acidity from citrus zest is balanced by butter cookies, sweet vanilla, and toffee.

Finish: The gentle smoke lingers long, accompanied by fruit muesli, chocolate flakes, and a salty sea breeze.

The last part of the quarterly released Crop Editions is once again dedicated to a smoky whisky. This time, the aromatic drop matured exclusively in former Islay casks.

The pale golden color testifies to pure naturalness. No coloring agents or chill filtration were used. This way, all aromas and flavor carriers remain intact in the whisky. To enjoy the varied impressions, let the solid cork glide out of the bottle and pour a sip into your glass. The characteristic notes of spicy grain and ripe garden fruits are consistently present. Unusual for a Lowland whisky are the smoky accents that this single malt holds for you at a robust 46% ABV. Always unobtrusive and restrained, a gentle veil of smoke lingers on the tongue, allowing you to perceive notes of honey, malt and fresh hay as well as images of citrus fruits, cookies, and sweet toffee.

This pleasant smokiness is ideal if you want to slowly approach the topic of smoky whisky to discover new horizons. In contrast to the Ploughing Edition First Crop, this release matured exclusively in the warehouses of Lochlea and only in 200-liter casks that previously contained Islay whisky. The distillery from which the casks originate is not disclosed by Lochlea, but since the production director John Campbell was previously the distillery manager at Laphroaig for many years, there is at least a suspicion in the air. Inspired by winter on the farm, the ice-blue label reflects the cold and frosty season in Ayrshire after the fields have been plowed. What could be better than getting cozy with a glass of whisky on the sofa !
