The reasoning of Master Blender Dr. Craig Wilson is as follows: The Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold consists of casks that have been distilled in winter. The colder it is outside, the less the New Make comes into contact with the copper of the condensers, which are located in the huge worm tubs outside at Dalwhinnie. The cooling happens so quickly at the extreme sub-zero temperatures that the influence of the copper on the distillate is significantly weakened. Due to the reduced contact, the flavor of the distillate changes in winter towards heavier, sweeter tones.

Dalwhinnie is the coldest distillery in Scotland. And especially in winter, the frosty winter air is biting cold at this time. In combination with ice-cold mountain water and maturation in oak casks, a complex, honey-golden single malt is created. A must-try. Also great when chilled.
