As one of the very few distilleries, Benromach celebrates the original style of the Speyside and fundamentally uses lightly peated barley malt with a phenol content of about 12ppm. For comparison: Laphroaig has about 50-60ppm. Despite the alcohol content of 'only' 43% ABV, the whisky appears very full-bodied, spicy, and characterful. One reason for this may be that only 1st Fill Casks, meaning first-fill barrels, are used. The creamy sweetness from bourbon casks perfectly complements the spice and subtle fruitiness from the sherry casks. To emphasize authenticity, the Benromach 15 is not colored - so enjoy its natural color, reminiscent of shiny copper.
