Nosing: Gentle smoke and a peppery sharpness rise from your glass, slowly making way for sweet nectarines, sugared plums, and raspberries. Fragrant nougat pralines accompany.
Palate: Full-bodied and intense. Sticky cherry syrup, candied orange, and ripe plums play with the gentle smoke. Roasted almonds, fresh walnuts, and black pepper round off the enjoyment.
Finish: Ripe fruits linger long, accompanied by subtle smoke and oak spice.

Upon opening the bottle, aromas of plums, cherry syrup, and nougat pralines waft out. Spicy notes of black pepper and really dark whole grain bread are also present. The smoke is only subtly noticeable. On the tongue and palate, a powerful start with intense flavors of candied orange, cherries, raspberries, and raisins emerges. Now more smoke along with roasted almonds, candied ginger, cloves, and nutmeg join in. It finishes with a medium-long finish, a hint of salted caramel, and beautiful oak spice.
The barley malt used in production has a phenol content of 48 ppm, which will delight fans of smoky whiskies. Raasay makes it even more transparent for whisky enthusiasts: 6 ppm are estimated to still be present in the finished whisky.
The distillate matured for about 2 years in First Fill Rye Whisky casks from Woodford Reserve in Kentucky/USA. This adds even more spice to the smoke in the form of clove pepper and cinnamon. Subsequently, it undergoes a finishing in Spanish Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry Quarter Casks, which bestow upon you the complex dark fruit notes. These casks have a capacity of only about 125 liters each, intensifying and accelerating the maturation process. The smaller casks combined with the powerful 52% ABV make the dried fruit notes and baking spices so intense. With natural color and no chill filtration, this single malt is further proof of the high quality and commitment to absolute transparency at the young island distillery.
