After aging in American white oak bourbon casks, it underwent a finishing period in precious Amarone red wine casks from the Valpolicella region northwest of Verona. While the bourbon casks contributed plenty of caramel, marzipan, and citrus notes to the single malt, the finish delivered spicy aromas of cocoa, licorice, and dry oak. However, the fruity taste of forest berries, cherries, and candied ginger is clearly in the foreground. The ideal drinking strength of 46% vol. and the absence of chill filtration provide sufficient intensity for lasting moments of enjoyment. The beautiful color of Glencadam comes solely from barrel aging and is sure to impress.
Amarone is among the kings of Italian red wines and is unique from production to taste. Before pressing the grapes, they are carefully dried in a lengthy process - usually in special wooden frames or on straw mats. Through the evaporation of a large part of the water, the fruit sugar and other components in the fruits become significantly concentrated. The elaborate process and the significantly larger amount of grapes required explain the comparatively high price for these noble wines.
