The Auchentoshan 12 years shines invitingly like golden honey in our nosing glass. Its aroma is fragrant with fresh citrus fruits and creamy crème brûlée. Its light and sweet taste reminds of toffee and almonds as well as limes and mandarins. The finish is medium-long and includes the special flavor of ginger and a subtle nuttiness.

'Auchentoshan' means corner of the field

Today, the distillery is no longer at the 'corner of the field', but conveniently located on the A82, near the banks of the Clyde. The distillery's water comes from the Killpatrick Hills, which are nominally already part of the Highlands. Nevertheless, Auchentoshan is a typical Lowland distillery. Auchentoshan continues the former Lowland tradition of triple distillation. This method is actually mainly practiced by Irish distilleries. By the way, the second extra distillation pot is called Intermediate Still there. While double distillation achieves a value of just over 70% alcohol by volume, triple distillation at Auchentoshan leads to a proud 82% ABV. This higher alcohol content results in a lighter and smoother body, which is a characteristic of the Auchentoshan distillery.

Ideal for beginners and connoisseurs

Auchentoshan has a tumultuous history behind it. However, the many changes of ownership have continually driven the Auchentoshan whisky forward through innovation. The distillery was destroyed during bombing raids in World War II and was not only rebuilt but also gradually expanded. In 2004, a visitor center was added, offering a whole range of tours and tastings. For those who prefer exclusivity, it is also possible to enjoy the tour entirely undisturbed behind closed doors for an additional fee. Since 2008, Auchentoshan has also revised its packaging design and now presents itself in simple elegant lines with refined details, such as the embossed logo in relief.

The Auchentoshan 12 years is among the best of the mild Scottish whiskies. The malt is only lightly dried and completely without smoke. The resulting light and fragrant style makes this malt ideal for beginners and connoisseurs of elegant Lowland whiskies.
