Like other whiskies from the Islay region, Big Peat blended malt delights with intense peat smoke. Followed by a fine sweetness, the taste is primarily dominated by a smoky note. The aromas of phenol and tar are refined with a hint of cocoa beans. The fine mix of sweet and smoky aromas finds its perfection in an ideal combination of sandalwood, almonds, and nuts. In the finish, Big Peat is relatively short, somewhat dry and sweet, yet beautifully smoky.

Remarkable Regional Malts
Big Peat is part of the popular series 'Remarkable Regional Malts' from the independent bottler Douglas Laing. In this series, high-quality representative single malts from the various whisky regions of Scotland are blended together to create a characteristic malt blend for each region. Big Peat represents the island of Islay with its peaty smoky whiskies. It is produced and bottled according to an old tradition in Scotland. A total of four different distilleries (including: Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and Port Ellen) are vatted together in this blended malt, for fans of strong Islay whiskies. The Speyside region is represented by the Scallywag bottling, and the Lowlands are represented by the Epicurean. The islands have their own region and are bottled in Rock Oyster. The Highlands are represented in Timorous Beastie, while Campbeltown has the Gauldrons bottling.
