Ardbeg Uigeadail

Aroma: Strong Islay smoke paired with warm fruity notes from the sherry casks. Bright oak and seaweed provide a nice contrast to the sweet vanilla and lime.

Flavor: On the palate, sweet jammy sherry notes ignite with dates, raisins, and red currants, carried by intense, maritime peaty smoke and a lovely oiliness.

Finish: Very long and persistent. Earthy peaty smoke, licorice, and sherry linger long after.

The Particularly Intense Whisky Experience

The Ardbeg Uigeadail is arguably the most comprehensive whisky from the Ardbeg distillery and one of the most intense whiskies Scotland has to offer. Ardbeg sources its water from the small spring after which this Ardbeg single malt is named. The Gaelic word means 'Mysterious Place' and is the old name of the spring of the Ardbeg Distillery. Poured fresh, the Uigeadail (pronounced 'Ugedahl') already entices with a seductive (natural) color of dark reddish-golden amber.

Even without approaching the glass, an intense peaty smoke greets us! The heavy earthy smoky aroma is the hallmark of Ardbeg, although we are always surprised at how complex the Uigeadail is. Alongside the strong smoke, this high-quality Islay whisky is dominated by the Spanish sherry casks used during maturation. This gives it enormous depth and jammy aromas of blackcurrants, cooked strawberries, and raisins. These are enveloped by Ardbeg's own distillery character of lime and seaweed. And that is just the top layer of aromas we can perceive thanks to the powerful cask strength of 54.2% ABV! With a little water and time, a vast array of other aromas can be found in this distinctive single malt. The Uigeadail is, of course, non-chill filtered, allowing all oils and aroma carriers to express themselves in a swirl of various impressions. We recommend this Ardbeg to any whisky fan who appreciates smoky whiskies and/or is a fan of sherry cask whisky. A top-class tasting experience that should not be missed!

At the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco 2018, the Uigeadail won double gold and in 2017 both double gold and the title 'Best Distillers Single Malt Scotch' in the 'No Age Statement' category. If the high alcohol content puts you off, you might want to try the Ardbeg An Oa first with 46.6% ABV and gradually ease into Ardbeg. If you are new to whisky, we recommend a milder variant to get acquainted with peat smoke, such as the gentle Bowmore 12 Years or the balanced Lagavulin 16 Years.

The Ardbeg Uigeadail can be enjoyed in various ways. If you want to discover a further variety of aromas, adding water is the ideal solution. This transforms the sweet aroma into malted honeydew melon and a note reminiscent of baked blackcurrant cake. The Ardbeg Uigeadail whisky is particularly enjoyable on cold winter days, shared with family or friends, or simply as a break after a long day. Additionally, it unfolds a perfectly balanced body of the highest class, making the Uigeadail whisky an ideal companion for cigars and chocolate! It also pairs excellently with hearty dishes. Whether for beef and Serrano ham or seafood like oysters or salmon, the Uigeadail is an excellent companion.
