Aroma: Intense lemon notes with delicate orange blossom. Surprisingly soft and creamy coconut notes, strong juniper and sage, as well as spicy pink pepper dominate, but still leave enough room for sweet apricot.
Taste: Here too, strong citrus notes are at the forefront, then becoming a bit sweeter towards fresh apple and pear, before the fresh sharpness of ginger warms the throat and leaves a bitter-spicy orange peel behind.
Finish: Strong licorice notes, star anise, green and peppermint tea create the long finish.

The Nikka Coffey Gin contains 11 key botanicals: juniper, coriander, angelica root, lemon and orange peel, as well as typical Japanese ingredients like the citrus plants yuzu, amanatsu, shikuwasa, and kabosu, sansho pepper, and in line with Nikka's company tradition: apple juice. While today young whisky distilleries bridge the gap until their whisky is first bottled with gin, vodka, and other clear distillates, Nikka once started with apple juice.
About Nikka: Thus, the Japanese whisky brand Nikka takes the reverse path of many young whisky distilleries. After many, many years of whisky production in the two distilleries of the group, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, this Nikka Coffey Gin and the Nikka Coffey Vodka also bring clear distillates into the program. The Nikka Coffey Gin and Nikka Coffey Vodka are distilled just like their whisky counterparts – the popular Nikka Coffey Malt and Nikka Coffey Grain – in the old Coffey Stills that were once imported from Glasgow. Both new releases are based on corn and malted barley. The Coffey Still is an early Continuous Still invented by Aeneas Coffey. It is said that the Coffey Still leads to a spirit with a more intense flavor, but it is significantly more difficult to operate than modern Continuous Stills.
About the production process: After the first distillation process, the botanicals are grouped into three different flavor profiles and added to the distillate in three batches. They are sorted by peppery notes, citrus notes, and classic juniper elements. After the botanicals have infused in the distillate, the three batches are distilled again in three different pot stills and finally blended with malted barley distillate and additional corn distillate to create the Nikka Coffey Gin. A complex blending process that is not unlike blending in whisky and certainly remains true to the Japanese love for detail.

Nikka (Japonija)
