It is a rarity in the Scottish distillery landscape: The Lochlea Distillery is independent, family-run – and, like a few distilleries in Scotland, grows its own barley. Thus, the team led by Production Director, Master Blender, and whisky legend John Campbell, who previously worked many years as Distillery Manager at Laphroaig, has full control over all production steps. The result: Excellent quality and traceability of the products.

With the Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 2, the farm distillery presents the second in a series of annual releases. The distillate matured for the entire duration in an exciting mix of Oloroso and PX sherry casks as well as selected STR wine casks (casks where the inner wood layer was thinly removed before being toasted and finally superficially re-charred). The bottling with natural cask strength of 60% ABV emphasizes the house style with its typical fruit, nut, and grain aromas. The delicious drop presents itself wonderfully dark in its natural color from the cask maturation and all its flavor-carrying substances. No coloring or cold filtration was used.

Thus, Batch 2 presents itself significantly fruitier than Batch 1. But try it yourself: The promising aroma of juicy apples, fruity apricot jam, and robust grains will delight you. The multifaceted nature of cloudy apple juice and sweet peaches alongside crisp cereals and noble walnuts is complemented by floral accents of lavender and rose petals.
