Nosing: A spicy-sweet smoky note reminiscent of incense pyramids. Accompanied by sweet toffee with almond bits and forest fruit jam with freshly grated orange zest.

Palate: Spicy pipe smoke dances around ripe cherries, red grapes, and juicy plums. Flamed sandalwood and oiled oak create a wonderful counterpoint. Later, notes of figs and mandarins emerge. 

Finish: Long-lasting with pleasant spice and sweet smoke. Fresh citrus notes flash through repeatedly.

When you think of Namibia, you might picture things like the Kalahari Desert, a sun-drenched Atlantic coast, and breathtaking highlands. Some might even think of the delicious wines from one of the smallest wine regions in the world. But whiskey? That might take a moment to consider.

Exceptional and good

This extraordinary grain whiskey is made from three different types of grains. The most exciting of these is the sweet-bitter Mahangu millet. After malting, it is dried over a fire made from dried elephant dung, which gives the whiskey a noticeable smokiness that is distinctly different from peat smoke.

The whiskey aged partly in Gravino casks from the Erongo Mountain Winery. Gravino is an African liqueur wine made similarly to Port wine. The Gravino casks impart wonderful notes of forest fruits, sweet cherries, and fine almonds. The cask aging also affects the smoke, providing sweet-spicy notes and a very complex smoky experience.

The climate in Namibia's highlands is predominantly dry with hot days and cold nights. This creates a very intense exchange between the distillate and the cask. Thus, the Ondjaba is wonderfully rounded and the alcohol is well integrated. The magnificent color also comes from this intense maturation and is 100% genuine. With 46% ABV, the whiskey has a pleasant drinking strength that beautifully showcases the richness of flavors.
