Graeme Macaloney (founder and whisky enthusiast), Mike Nicolson (master distiller), and the sadly already deceased chemist, biologist, and whisky expert Dr. Jim Swan established a distillery in 2016 that deserves great respect. With the financial support of the agricultural authority and more than 270 private investors, the project was realized in the far southwest of the country on Vancouver Island. Remarkably, the small craft distillery only uses local barley and the stills were specially imported from Scotland. With a lot of passion and dedication, fruity distillates are created in the copper pot stills, which mature in the maritime climate and have already been awarded multiple times. For example, in 2022, the An Loy (formerly known as Glenloy) was awarded Best Canadian Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards.
