Balcones Texas Single Malt

Aroma: Buttery with warm banana bread and ripe pears, honey, rose water, cedar wood, and delicate citrus notes.

Palate: Silky yet powerful on the palate, with apples and freshly toasted bread, along with brown sugar, butter, and jam. 

Finish: Long-lasting with brown sugar, oak notes, and a fine acidity. 

The Balcones Distillery in Waco, Texas is one of the most exciting distilleries in the United States. Especially single malt whisky fans should remember the name. This passion project has developed into a real eye-catcher since 2009. Starting as an artisan craft distillery, Balcones now has a new, larger distillery with a visitor center since 2016. Balcones sets a new standard for malt whisky in the USA. By definition, single malt does not have to be aged for at least 3 years in the USA and does not have to be made from 100% malted barley. Most whiskeys in the USA are distilled in continuous column stills (Patent Stills/Column Stills). Not at Balcones! The Texans had their own pot stills designed and built by the renowned Scottish copper smith Forsyths in Rothes. Due to the extremely variable Texas climate, the whiskies mature significantly faster here. Balcones consciously plays with extremes and has invented 'Yard Aging', a method of leaving barrels in the blazing Texas sun for a time. All whiskies at Balcones are bottled without coloring or cold filtration. The distillery is regularly awarded at spirits competitions.

With this Balcones Texas Single Malt - Classic Edition, the distillery won the title of 'World's Best American' at the World Whiskies Awards 2014 and the title of 'Best American Single Malt' in 2016. The distillery also regularly wins gold medals at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco, annually since 2015. And yes: Balcones intentionally spells it 'Whisky'.
