Old Pulteney 18 Year Old

Aroma: Cinnamon-spiced cookie dough, ripe oak, a very fine note of charcoal.

Taste: Dark chocolate and green apple stand in a wonderful contrast of bitterness and sweetness, while waves of sweet vanilla and rye bread hold back in the background.

Finish: Citrus fruits, sea salt, and damp grass in the finish.

The present single malt whisky comes from the Old Pulteney Distillery in Scotland. More specifically, the whisky is from the northern Highlands. Once, Pulteney was even the northernmost distillery in the country. Old Pulteney is characterized by slightly maritime aromas with fine salty notes and wonderfully integrated oak tones.

The whisky was made from malted unpeated barley. Thus, the Old Pulteney 18 years is not smoky. The whisky was bottled at a respectable 46.0% ABV, which contributes to the full-bodied character of this release. Toffee and caramel play a role in the bouquet of this whisky. Dark fruit notes, intense spice aromas, and bitter oak tones come from the sherry cask. The combination of different cask types creates a rounded bouquet. This whisky shows its color, as no artificial coloring was added – the hue came naturally through cask maturation. Another sign of the quality of this whisky: Cold filtration was avoided. The maturation period lasted a full 18 years. The high age is reflected in the complex taste and multilayered aromas of this whisky.

Pulteney distilerija yra ramioje Wick uosto miestelyje, tiesiogiai prie rytinės pakrantės, toli šiaurėje Škotijoje. Čia distilerija gamina savo nerūkyto, tačiau labai jūrinio, vieno salyklo viskį Old Pulteney. Šis viskis žinomas dėl savo sūrumo ir sauso charakterio, savybių, kurios Old Pulteney suteikė pravardę „Šiaurės Manzanilla“.

Pulteney pavadinimas taip pat yra Wick miesto rajono pavadinimas, kuriame įsikūrusi distilerija. Pulteney, tariamas kaip „pultnej“, iki Wolfburn distilerijos atidarymo buvo šiauriausia distilerija Škotijos žemyninėje dalyje.
