Taste: Very mild, yet powerful and fruity on the tongue. Ripe forest berries and dried garden fruits mix with blood oranges, raisins, marzipan, nuts, as well as warm puff pastry with pudding filling and a hint of cinnamon.

Finish: The single malt from the Ruby Port casks lingers medium-long on the palate, showcasing clear fruit notes and gentle tannins once again.

The Elsburn 2023 Ruby Port Cask from Hercynian Distilling Co. in the Harz region is characterized by a captivating aroma and its intense fruity-sweet taste. The sweet scent of dried fruits and fresh figs will make you dream of warm summer evenings in the Algarve. Very smooth, yet also spirited, the whisky starts on your tongue with dark fruits, oranges, almonds, and Portuguese natas. Supported by some baking spices and fresh nuts, the drop forms a completely harmonious picture and slowly fades with unobtrusive tannins.

The single malt matured in Ruby Port wine casks from the Douro Valley, the cradle of Port wine. As with all bottlings from the distillery, the whisky was not colored and chill filtration was omitted. With a limited release of 1404 bottles, the Elsburn 2023 Ruby Port is a limited availability delicacy.

The Hercynian Distilling Company is nestled in the picturesque mountain landscape of the Southern Harz. Many whisky fans know the distillery better by the name Hammerschmiede or, its name until 2019, Glen Els. This designation was reluctantly abandoned during a dispute with the Scotch Whisky Association. The Scottish regulatory authority argued that the word 'Glen' indicated a Scottish origin and threatened with a lawsuit. Since then, the bottlings have been marketed under the brand names 'Elsburn' (non-smoky), 'Willowburn' (lightly smoky), 'The Alrik' (heavily smoky), and 'Emperor's Way' (also heavily smoky).
