The GlenAllachie 18 years is part of the core range of the Speyside distillery GlenAllachie, alongside GlenAllachie 12 years, GlenAllachie 10 years Cask Strength, and GlenAllachie 15 years. Here, casks were selected in which the whisky slumbered for at least 18 years before being deemed perfect. This is a complex Speyside single malt whisky that showcases the entire skill of the legendary Master Distiller Billy Walker.

A new era at GlenAllachie

For a long time, single malt whisky from this distillery was only available from independent bottlers like Gordon & MacPhail, but with the takeover by Billy Walker, the former Master Distiller of the Benriach and Glendronach distilleries, the distillery is focusing on original bottlings. Under his leadership, the style of the distillery is clearly oriented towards strong sherry cask maturation. This is also evident in this example. Since 2024, the GlenAllachie 18 years shines in a new, elegant appearance.

Caramel, dried fruits, and complex spice notes - this is how GlenAllachie 18 years tastes

The GlenAllachie 18 years is characterized by aromatic heather honey, supported by a robust malt core and enriched with many sweet vanilla and caramel notes. Cherries, raisins, and dates bring fruity notes into play. GlenAllachie surprises with its full body, which is rather atypical for whisky from Speyside. The 18-year-old shows what the GlenAllachie 12 years already hints at: a potential for robust spices and complex sherry cask notes. At 18 years old, more oak spice comes through, yet the whisky remains wonderfully sweet with date and caramel notes. Fortunately, GlenAllachie standardly refrains from coloring and cold filtration. Thanks to the use of active sherry casks, color correction is not necessary - the whisky shines in a reddish-amber hue. The 46% ABV manifests in the whisky's robust body.

For fans of sherry cask matured whiskies

Especially fans of the Glendronach distillery can look forward to a kindred distillery in GlenAllachie. Here, the sherry cask is clearly in the foreground: fruity raisins, cinnamon, and allspice, as well as bitter chocolate and oak notes, showcase the full spectrum of the Andalusian liqueur wine cask. The sherry casks used here are all first or second fill casks, which is evident not only in the intense coloring but also in the intense aromas. In combination with casks made from American oak, the malt still possesses a creamy softness that provides a gentle contrast to the strong sherry cask notes. Those who found the Glengoyne 18 years great will find a similar yet slightly bolder bottling here.
