Edradour 12 Caledonia is an extraordinary Single Malt Whisky from the Highlands: It comes from one of the smallest whisky distilleries in Scotland, the Edradour distillery founded in 1825 east of Pitlochry. Here, about 40 km north of Perth, we are in the heart of the Highlands, where tradition is still highly valued! The distillery, which produces only about 250,000 bottles of whisky per year, is now owned by the independent blender & bottler Signatory.
The Edradour Caledonia is named after the famous Scottish composer and singer Dougie MacLean, who was also involved in selecting the Oloroso casks. He became famous in 1979 with the song of the same name, which sings of his Scottish homeland (formerly known as 'Caledonia'). The Edradour Caledonia is bottled after 12 years of maturation in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso casks with an alcohol content of 46%.
The Edradour Caledonia has a beautiful amber color and delights connoisseurs with a dense, distinctly sherry-driven aroma dominated by dried fruits and honey. After some time, fine nuances of tobacco and leather develop, softened by sweet notes. On the palate, the sherry is again prominent, complemented by a peppery spice and a very nice sweetness with plenty of fruit. Full-bodied, it still possesses a very elegant character that also defines the long finish.
