The spirit Clairin is produced only in the small island nation of Haiti. Located on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, it lies next to the Dominican Republic. White sandy beaches, palm trees, pure sun, and sea are what most people associate with this piece of earth. However, there is much more to know about this country. For example, on its relatively small area, there are over 500 distilleries that still produce Clairin according to traditional recipes. The spirit is very similar to Rhum Agricole, which is produced in Martinique, French Guiana, and Guadeloupe, among others. Just like this, Clairin is based on sugarcane juice. However, it is not distilled in column stills but in pot stills, which distinguishes it from classic French Rhum Agricole.
