In County Antrim, Northern Ireland, lies the Bushmills distillery, which produces the Bushmills 10 Year Old. It claims to be the oldest whiskey distillery in all of Ireland, having been in operation since 1608. It is located by the River Bush and is the only distillery in Ireland that has adopted an appearance similar to its Scottish counterparts. The master distillers produce significant whiskeys that showcase a house style with high maltiness. However, through triple distillation and aging in sherry casks, the whiskeys are exceptionally smooth.
Its aroma stands out with a light and sweet note reminiscent of honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and dried oranges. The first impression could be described as somewhat cool. The scent of mint chocolate and marzipan dominates before hints of sherry. The first contact on the palate is also dominated by sweet fruits, which are more bright than dark. The palate also finds notes of sherry, which brings a different sweetness that is more reminiscent of malt. Just behind that, there might be a hint of milk chocolate and then a delicate oak tone. All impressions are mild and not strongly present. Consequently, the finish is also short and mild. Nevertheless, it can be described as pleasant, fresh, and dry.
