A delight for all senses: Caledonia

Aroma: Sweet sultanas and figs scent together with chocolate and spicy honey from the glass.

Taste: Full and rich, reminiscent of Christmas pastries, oranges, raisins, and warm toast with honey, along with buttery caramel, roasted almonds, sweetened coffee, and a hint of green pepper.

Finish: Medium-long and slightly dry, with a touch of fine bittersweet cocoa.

Edradour 12 Caledonia is an extraordinary single malt whisky: It comes from one of the smallest whisky distilleries in Scotland, the Edradour distillery founded in 1825 east of Pitlochry. Here, about 40 km north of Perth, we are in the heart of the Highlands, where great value is placed on tradition and craftsmanship! The small distillery, which produces only about 250,000 bottles of whisky per year, is now owned by whisky enthusiast Andrew Symington. Under his responsibility is also one of the largest and most renowned independent bottling companies in Scotland, Signatory.

The Edradour Caledonia has a very beautiful amber color and delights the connoisseur with a dense, distinctly sherry-dominated aroma, characterized by dried fruits and honey. After some time, the finest nuances of tobacco and leather develop, cushioned by chocolate notes. On the palate, the sherry is again prominent, complemented by a peppery spice and a pronounced sweetness with plenty of fruit. Its full body has an elegant character, which also defines the long and subtly dry finish.

The Edradour Caledonia is named after the famous Scottish composer and singer Dougie MacLean, who was also involved in the selection of the Oloroso sherry casks. In 1977, MacLean wrote the song Caledonia on a beach in Brittany, France, and became world-famous. In it, he sings of his Scottish homeland, which was formerly known as Caledonia, and his longing for it. The Edradour Caledonia is bottled after a total aging of 12 years with an alcohol content of 46%. The first years, the distillate spends in ex-bourbon casks, before maturing for about 4-5 years in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.

Edradour (Highlands)

Edradour yra mažas Škotijos viskio kraštovaizdžio brangakmenis. Tai viena mažiausių distiliavimo gamyklų Škotijoje. Distiliavimo gamykla vis dar gamina savo viskį senoviniu ir tradiciniu būdu.

Nuo 2002 metų Edradour vėl yra nepriklausomose rankose. Su Andrew Symington, nepriklausomo buteliavimo įmonės Signatory įkūrėju, Highland distiliavimo gamykla turi tikrą viskio ekspertą kaip savininką. Nuo perėmimo reguliariai pasirodo įdomūs vieno salyklo viskiai. Nuo išskirtinių vieno statinės viskių iš šery ir vyno statinių iki aukštos kokybės standartų – visko yra! Edradour torfinių dūmų salyklo viskiai žinomi kaip Ballechin, tuo tarpu Edradour pavadinimu žinomi viskiai nėra dūminiai.
